Jessie Leigh Dance & Cheer Academy

    Who are we?

Welcome to Jessie Leigh Dance & Cheer Academy - home of the fastest growing academy in the South Coast! We are excited to be entering our 2nd season and have learned over the previous year that while all of the trophies, banners, jackets and rings are great accolades, nothing compares to the feeling of belonging to the JLDC family.

While All-Star Cheerleading has exploded in growth in the UK, we believe that not all gyms are the same. With over 360 cheerleaders in 2 locations within the Gosport and Portsmouth region, we also have the largest After School Club Program in the area. Through all of this, we’ve stuck to our humble beginnings and kept the focus on developing our youth through this amazing sport.

Being a JLDC athlete means being a part of a supportive an inclusive family that truly lifts you higher. We can’t wait to welcome you! Young athletes with big dreams go far in life!

    What is Cheerleading?

Cheerleading has two specific areas ‘Cheer Pom’ and ‘Cheer’. Cheer Pom involves dance, jumps, turns and some gymnastic skills whilst holding pom poms. The other type of Cheerleading involves stunting, tumbling, jumps and dance. The aim in this class is for the children to have FUN whilst learning more about their body awareness and developing skills. If interest is high in this class future aspirations of entering a team into competitions would be considered.

    What's Next?

If your child enjoys the FREE Taster session they are invited to join our After School Club sessions. These run for 1 hour after school finishes and will be taught by our qualified and very experienced coaches. All coaches have a fantastic background in both dance and cheerleading and hold all required qualifications. We are all extremely excited to be back for another season. To learn more about the coaches please visit our website.

Students who participate in the After School Club sessions get the opportunity to perform at JLDC's annual Summer Showcase Event on 8th July 2018. This will be held at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth and seats a crowd of 800+.

When do the After School Clubs Start?

The After School Clubs will commence THURSDAY 8th March 2018 from 3:00pm - 4:00pm for a total of 4 weeks.

  • Statement regarding the consultation on Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN)

Statement regarding the consultation on Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN)

Statement regarding the consultation Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN)

    St Mary’s Catholic Primary School

A Voluntary Aided School in the Diocese of Portsmouth.

    Dear Parents and Staff,

As you are all aware, during January and February you were invited to respond to the St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Admissions consultation which was related to the proposed reduction of the School’s Pupil Admission Number [PAN]. The consultation proposal was to reduce the existing, PAN from 40 to 30, with effect from September 2019.

Following the consultation period, St Mary’s Catholic Primary has considered all responses and the decision has been made to approve the proposal and reduce the PAN to 30 (for Foundation Stage intake September 2019). The following information has been offered as explanation for this decision:

Following the end of the consultation, all responses were considered. Ten responses were received, five responses from parents and five from staff. All parental responses were overwhelmingly in favour of reducing the PAN. The main reasons given were that it would enable children to have the same curriculum experience and learn with peers of the same age throughout their time at school.

Of the staff responses received, three were also overwhelmingly in favour for the same reasons as above and because it will enable teachers to plan more effectively for age related expectations.

We have given careful consideration to the concerns raised, however in light of the Local Authority and Diocese fully supporting a reduction in the PAN, it is felt that the challenges facing the school in the future would be far greater should numbers remain the same.

If you have any questions in relation to the information in this letter, please email them to the Chair of Governors, using the email tweedcarmen01@gmail.com

The Governors will then address these in future letters, or individually with parents if that is appropriate.

Once again thank you for your support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Penny Sherborne

  • Consultation on Changing the Pupil Admission Number (PAN)

    Wed 17 Jan 2018

Consultation on Changing the Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN)

Consultation on Changing the Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN)

    St Mary’s Catholic Primary School

A Voluntary Aided School in the Diocese of Portsmouth.

    January 2018

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School would like to propose reducing the Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN) with effect from 1 September 2019.

Although the Regulations and Code of Practice relating to school admissions no longer require an admissions authority to consult when maintaining or increasing a school’s PAN, there remains a requirement to consult when the proposal is to reduce a PAN. St Mary’s Catholic Primary School as the admissions authority is seeking comments on the proposed change.

    Proposal

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School proposes to reduce the published admission number of the school from 40 to 30 with effect from 1 September 2019.

    Factors considered by St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in deciding to consult on this proposal are;

    - A PAN of 40 currently results in mixed age classes. A reduction of the PAN to 30 will result in single form entry which will enable teachers to plan more effectively for age related expectations, leading to improved outcomes for all.

    - A PAN of 40 results in mixed age classes across the school. As a consequence of this, pupils of the same age do not have the same curriculum experience because teachers must plan differently to ensure curriculum coverage and objectives for two year groups in mixed age classes. A reduction of PAN will mean that pupils have the same curriculum experience as their peers of the same age.

    - A PAN of 30 will ensure that pupils are able to learn with peers of the same age. This will enable their social and emotional needs to be met more effectively because pupils will transition to the next year group together. This is particularly important for Year 6 pupils; all will have had the same opportunity in terms of the curriculum and learning together before they transition to secondary school.

For these reasons the governing body and headteacher are in favour of the proposal.

    How to Respond

This consultation will run from 17th January until 28th February 2018 and you are invited to submit comments in writing about the proposal above to the Chair of Governors, Mrs Carmen Tweed on the email below or in writing.

    Email: tweedcarmen01@gmail.com

    Written Response: Chair of Governors

    St Mary’s Catholic Primary School

    Anns Hill Road

    Gosport

    PO12 3NB

Following the consultation period St Mary’s Catholic Primary will then make a formal decision based on consideration of any responses received. Admission arrangements for 2019 will be determined by the statutory date of 28th February 2018.
