Thank you very much to the parents, children (Alex & Isabella) and friends who supported the girls match, very much appreciated! Look forward to seeing you all next time.
The girls played their first match of the season against St. John’s CE and came away from the game that finished 8:2. The progress and improvement by both teams throughout the game was fantastic to watch. Molly Mc. our goalkeeper was placed under pressure very early in the first half that did give St. John’s the lead. However, this only resolved the St. Mary’s Girls who listened to each other, looked for space and took risks to come forward with the ball.
St. Mary’s formation was initially 2:3:1, this meant a lot of the first half was spent in our half. In the second half, we changed the formation to 2:1:1:2. Bringing the two Year 5 strikers Violet and Sophie up front supported by the captain Weronika and the Girl of the Match Olivia O’B. They opened up the game resulting in St. Mary’s scoring two goals, the first of which was a scorcher by Olivia who kicked it from outside the keeper’s box into the bottom left corner of the goal! Our goalkeeper performed more elaborate saves as the game continued, for this reason, she was the Most Improved Player of the Match. Oliva received Girl of the Match for the energy she brought to the game achieving the impossible of being in many places at once, an excellent performance.
All the girls really enjoyed themselves having fun with lots of smiles throughout. We can’t wait to see how they develop as a team.
Layna, Olivia (Girl of the Match), Weronika (Captain), Charlie, Molly Mc. (Most Improved Player), Lucia, Violet, Sophie and Molly C.
