Thu 26 Nov 2015 School Reporter

St. Mary's played against Elson at Bridgemary and lost the final score was 3:5.

The games started with Stanley in goal for the first half and he performed admirably. Within the first 5 minutes Elson scored. Shortly afterwards Alex was one on one with their goalie and scored bringing the game to 1 a piece. Our midfield looked tired and didn't get back quick enough to support the defence when Elson were on the attack wich allowed them to score a further three goals before half time. Half time score 1:4.

In the second half Alex took the goalie shirt, and within a few minutes after a St. Mary's penalty Elson scored an own goal. Then Marcus had an opportunity one on one with the goalie and he scored shooting it into the bottom left hand corner. The game was now 3:4 to Elson, however in the final seconds there was a corner kick for Elson that they managed to turn into a goal ending the game 3:5.

The team did better in the second half and managed to bring the game to Elson but were denied by the cross bar a couple of times.

The team consisted of Alex B., Stanley P., Marcus O., Weronika W., Molly C., Drew M., and Kacper P..

  • St. Mary's Football Team Win.

Tue 17 Nov 2015 School Reporter

St. Mary's mixed football team played Grange Junior School away and won 4:1.

Stepping onto the pitch you would have thought you were going down to the beach, the wind was so strong it was picking up kit and footballs and blowing them away!

The game must go on! For the first half St. Mary's was playing into the wind. Within the first five minutes Grange scored a goal that took St. Mary's by surprise. It took many attempts at goal by St. Mary's but eventually Alex connected to a cross by Marcus bring the game 1:1. Just before half time Marcus scored.

Going into the second half 2:1 up, St. Mary's showed more confidence that resulted on many more attempts on goal. Stanley scored from a lovely cross from Marcus that was assisted by the wind, that was now in our favour.

Joe was then put under pressure requiring him to make two saves in quick succession. His commitment to saving the second goal resulted in him landing awkwardly on his hand which he brushed off.

Joe's counterpart then made a superman save when Alex connected with it and shot it into the top right corner, an excellent save!

This did not deter Alex who scored in the final minutes from Marcus's cross.

The team consisted of Alex B., Stanley P., Marcus O., Drew M., Weronika W., Molly C., Joe E., and Kacper P..

  • St. Mary's Football Team

Thu 12 Nov 2015 School Reporter

St. Mary's mixed football team played Gomer Juniors School away and lost 2:1.

The team went into the game knowing that they were facing the team that last week came second in the Chelsea F.C. Hampshire Tournament. Gomer's first goal was scored by a very energetic year 5 from a pass across the goal. Their second goal was the result of their goal kick going straight into our goal.

In the second half within the first few minutes Marcus scored, firing it into the corner of the net. St. Mary's held their ground and Joe was really tested on several occasions in the second half but Gomer was unable to beat him or our defence!

The game finished 2:1 making our manager Steve very proud of the team, because they performed extremely well in the second half.

The team consisted of Alex B., Stanley P., Marcus O., Weronika W., Molly C., Joe E., and Kacper P..

  • St. Mary's Mixed Football Team took part in Chelsea FC Hampshire Premier League Tournament

Thu 05 Nov 2015 School Reporter

For the very first time this season St. Mary's had a mixed football team representing the school.

The U11 6 a-side tournament took place at Bridgemary School and 12 schools from across Hampshire took part.

In St. Mary's group we had Grange Junior, Siskin Junior and St. Judes. The team consisted of Molly C., Weronika, Alex B., Joe E., Ben L., Drew M., Marcus O., and Stanley P..

Our first game was against Grange Junior School. The only attempt on goal was from a lovely pass from Stanley that Marcus connected with but was saved by their goalkeeper who leaped like a frog to save it. The teams were evenly matched that resulted in a draw 0:0.

After a lengthy wait our second game was between St. Judes. They were an excellent team that showed great control on the ball, that contributed to them winning the game 2:0.

Our final game was against Siskin Junior School. The team showed great spirit after just been defeated by St. Judes and it paid off because Alex scored two goals. Thanks to Joe it remained 2:0 to us, after he made a superman save across goal in the final minute of the game.

The tournament was well supported by parents so thank you very much.
